Behind Closed Cubicles

The internet! It is one of the most amazing, complex, unifying, interactive systems with limitless potential. However this limitless potential is a double edged sword; it can have boundless usage for good or bad. While "good" and "bad" are subjective modifiers, we can all agree somethings are more acceptable than not. For example, you do not watch porn at the office while your boss is out to lunch. But in all seriousness porn in the work place has become an issue in work environments. Especially considering how the whole world seems to be wi-fi, 4 G and so on. The internet can be utilized on cell phones, laptops, desktops, pda's, and most communication devices. A statistic shows that 70% of porn is downloaded during the average 9 to 5 work day. 70%! That's a lot of porn! But the question I raise is, what are the ramifications of this available access to porn at the work place? Is it effecting productivity, whether it be increasing, decreasing, or is indifferent. There is an article that articulates how porn in the work place is the highest form of internet "loafing" spent by employees and is to be considered an issue in regard to risk management. I could see how it could be distracting to employees and have large effects on the culture of a corporation as well as its success.

the link above provides some keen insight onto the issue if anyone is interested in pursuing the issue further. But I was wondering on others thoughts? Please post any concerns or thoughts.
