Felony at Your Finger Tips?
Cell Phones or mobiles, personally I hate them, but you cannot deny that they do seem to be useful and have revolutionized society. Cell phones have had an impact on all aspects and sectors of culture. With cell phones you can talk to grandpa and grandma all the way in Oregon, have conference calls for work while commuting, call 911 when in an emergency. So forth and so on, I did need to club you over the head with all the things cell phones can do and be used for in today's realm. But I bet you didn't know if your a teenager you could be charged with possession of child pornography, or an adult can be arrested for this same crime or be prosecuted for sexual harassment, obscenities because of your mobile.
That is right your mobile can get you arrested if you are playing "naughty naughty" with it. It is a recent trend that was coined "Sexting" in 2005. While it was first named and noticed five years ago it is still going strong and causing some people high up to take action. First, I'll define sexting. Sexting is communicating via text and the content of the correspondence is sexually explicit. Sexual explicit being considered verbal and/or photographic. The danger with sexting is that it is widely available and easily done. Furthermore the danger is that sexting can lead to the spread of information and pictures widely without the the control of the person who initial sent the sexual material.
Many schools have had an issue with sexting both amongst the students themselves and the administrations involvement in it. Some principals and teacher who have been asked to investigate issues have been charged with child pornography, or sexual explicit images because they merely had possesion of it. One young man in Fort Wayne, Indiana, had been indicted on a felony obscenity charge for "allegedly sending a photo of his genitals to several female classmates. " Many young female teenagers send "risque" photos to boyfriends and then "drama" happens and picture get spread. I actually know many young women this has happen to. A local highschool by me RBC had a student who was on American Idol catch some media attention from sexting and related cyber sexual content. Antonellla Barba a local New Jersey girl was eliminated from American Idol and caught with her pants around her ankles so to speak on a national level. Her name and images are the first things that come up on any web search engine. It is a travesty that young people are in this situation where they can be prosecuted for sexual stupidity, be ruined by the cruel intentions of others and also be forever caught on a technological media. The danger of sexting is powerful and can cause serious damage.
