Technological advances occur so rapidly that for some it may be difficult to keep up. It’s easy to get stuck in your own ways and not want to learn how to navigate these new technological systems.
5 signs that you're technologically behind the times.
- You remember the name of the device that plays a VHS. Better yet you have one collecting dust in your basement and it’s so old it has the pop up feature where you insert the movie. In case you were concerned the name of the device is a VCR.
- You still go to blockbuster to rent movies. Duh. We have Netflix now. Why would you ever leave your house to rent a movie.
- Your cell phone flips. Who has flip phones anymore?. Not only is hard to come by flips, the amount of cell phones users who don’t have smart phones is shrinking rapidly.
- When you leave your house for a long trip you print out mapquest directions. That way when you get lost you’re really screwed because paper directions, unlike the wide variety of GPS systems, don’t offer that wonderful ‘recalculating’ feature.
- You have a hand held CD player that plays 22 songs at the most when you could have any of the many types of ipods.
A family member of mine, a well educated man, who started his own business and became very successful, now feels like an infant in the world of technology. He gets frustrated and feels stupid when he tries to use computers and other types of technology. Advances that were made when he was younger that seemed to be so ahead of the time are now obsolete.
This makes me a little skittish about what it means for my future. Will I one day feel completely lost at the hands of technology. Already, I find myself being stubborn, not wanting to learn new things such as how to use a smart phone. My lack of interest in new technology could make me feel even more lost and frustrated when new advances are made with computers and other gadgets than I already do.
your such a nerd A*Lo lol. But good work!

ReplyDeleteI have a great fear for society's dependency on technology and its lack of value for "traditional" or more hands on approaches. I fear that the dependency will have a large effect on future generations mental molds and physical attributes. Yes email are nice and make it easy to communicate faster, but there is something to be said for the hand written letter, or the face-to-face interations. Technology can only do some much it cannot convey the intangible aspect of a person's self identity: i.e. charm, smile, gesticulations, etc etc....I think that technology is good and an useful tool but should have a defined role and not dominate traditional ways of interaction.
