1. C.C. Sabathia- He is arguably the best pitcher in Major League Baseball. He is leading the league in wins with 19, 6th in strikeouts with 179 and 5th with a 3.03 earned run average (ERA). He is also the favorite to win the American League CY Young award, which annually is given to the best pitcher in each league. Sabathia is also able to pitch effectively on three days of rest, which allows him to pitch at least twice in each series, which gives the Yankees a distinct advantage over its opponents.
2. Derek Jeter, Mr. November- Derek Jeter is one of the most clutch athletes of all time. Even though Jeter is having a below average 2010, but has always produced in the playoffs. He has a career batting average of .313 (.354 in Divisional Round) and has numerous game winning and game tying hits.
3. Experience- The Yankees is one of if not the most experienced team in Major League Baseball. Not to mention the most successful sports franchises in the country, with 27 World Championships. The Yankees have at least 16 players who have World Series experience, including the majority of the starters from last year’s championship team.
4. Mariano Rivera- is a top 3 closer of all time and by far the best and most successful closer in postseason history. In 29 Postseason Series Rivera has 39 saves, 0.74 earned run average in 43 save chances.
5. Yankees Lineup- They have one of the best lineups in Major League Baseball, no questions about it. With Arod, Cano, Jeter, Texiera and Swisher, offense could never be a problem. This potent lineup did not disappoint leading the American League in runs batted in (RBI) this past season. Alex Rodriguez proved last year that he could hit well in postseason when he basically carried the Yankees through the Divisional Playoffs. Regardless of which Yankee is in the batters box, the opposing team is going to have a tough time stopping such a talented deep lineup.
